Curtin Humanities: Research

Welcome from the Dean, Centre for Research and Graduate Studies

The Faculty of Humanities conducts a wide range of pure and applied research in the areas of the arts, social sciences, built environment and education. The list of Faculty research organisations below gives some indication of the diversity of our activities. Many of our staff members are undertaking collaborative research with national and international university partners, government organisations and industry. The Faculty is also actively involved in creative production in the areas of Art, Film and TV, Performance Studies and Literature and, in areas such as Architecture and Design in particular, research and creative production activities frequently overlap.

Research degrees at the Masters and PhD level are available in all areas of the Faculty and many also offer Masters and Doctorates in Creative Arts. Advice and assistance for both prospective and current postgraduate research students is available from the Humanities Graduate Studies Office. Curtin also operates a number of university-wide grant and fellowship programs. Further information on these opportunities can be obtained from Research and Development at Curtin.

In addition to the research and creative work being conducted in the research organisations listed below, the Faculty's component Schools, Built Environment, Design and Art, Education, Social Sciences & Asian Languages and Media, Culture and Creative Arts can also be contacted for more specific information on their research and creative production activities.

The research and creative production activities of the Faculty are expanding rapidly, with perhaps the most notable recent development being the appointment of a new research team led by Professor Peter Newman to the Curtin University Sustainability Policy (CUSP) Institute.
